Withholding Elections

The Withholding Elections screen allows you to view and, if available, maintain tax withholding deductions being applied to your pension benefit. Both federal and state tax withholding data is available if applicable.

To access the Withholding Elections screen, click on the Withholding Elections option in the menu. The Withholding Elections screen opens.

If you have only one benefit, the screen automatically displays the tax withholding information for that benefit. If you have more than one benefit, the screen displays the tax withholding information for the first benefit you received.

If you have more than one benefit and would like to see information on a benefit that is not currently displayed, click on the benefit displayed next to "Viewing" at the top of the screen. This opens a list of your benefits. Select the benefit you wish to view. The tax withholding information for the selected benefit is then displayed on the screen.

To view all past elections in addition to current elections, click the "include prior elections" link in the Tax Withholdings section of the screen.

There is a Federal Withholding Information section and a State Withholding Information section on this screen. Information displayed in each card includes:

Note: The information on this screen can viewed in a grid rather than cards by clicking the "view as grid" link.

To update your withholding election for either Federal or State, click the down arrow in the upper right part of the appropriate withholding card (or if using the grid view, clicking the Edit link). If a change is allowed (there are situations where it is not allowed), click the Update Election prompt that appears. This takes you to the Withholding Edit screen.

Note: Only the current election can be changed, and changes cannot be made if there are already pending changes to your withholding. If the Edit option is not available, contact the retirement office for assistance in changing your withholding elections.

Make your changes and then click the Calculate New Net Benefit button. The Net Benefit Breakdown screen opens displaying the change to your net benefit based on the new withholding amount. This is where you can review your changes. If everything is correct, click Save Withholding and a confirmation email for this update is sent to you. If the changes are not correct, you can click Back to return to the Withholding Edit screen where further changes can be made.

The effective date of any withholding change will be the first of the following month.

Note: If no withholding records exist, a blank card is displayed that only contains a Create New Federal (or State) Election link. Clicking this link will allow to enter your withholding information.
